Dr. Jennifer Hodgson is the editor of «The Unmapped Country — Stories & Fragments» by British novelist Ann Quin. Jennifer is traveling from England to New Mexico, in Ann's footsteps, to read from her stories. Ann Quin was a remarkable British novelist (who called herself a poet) who died in 1973 at age 37. Ann Quin's work is «concerned with moments, glances, shifting moods, scenes flickering in and out of view...wild… and virtuosic.» Ann pushes «British fiction into weirder, dirtier and more anarchic places.»
«This new collection of rare and unpublished writing by the cult 1960's author Ann Quin explores the risks and seductions of going over the edge. The stories cut an alternative path across innovative 20th century writing, bridging the world of Virginia Woolf and Anna Kavan with that of Kathy Acker and Chris Kraus.»
Jennifer Hodgson is a writer and critic from Hull. She writes about literature and culture for a variety of publications, including The Guardian adn The White Review, and is currently writing the first critical study of Ann Quin's work. She was previously UK Editor at Dalkey Archive Press.
Placitas poet Larry Goodell reads a few poems about Ann Quin and introduces Jennifer Hodgson and we welcome her to Albuquerque and the Poetry Playhouse!
