After three successful years of ABQ CiQlovía in downtown Albuquerque, the event explores new territory in the International District.
The 5th Annual event will take place on Southern Blvd. SE between Kentucky St. and Grove St. from 10am until 3pm.
ABQ CiQlovía is an «open streets» event where specific streets are temporarily closed to vehicle traffic and opened up to people on foot and bike, allowing participants to experience our largest public spaces—streets—in an entirely new way. The free event encourages people of all ages to try out and enjoy active forms of transportation in a fun, safe, healthy, and social environment.
This year’s event is presented by the Presbyterian Center for Community Health, International District Healthy Communities Coalition, the City of Albuquerque, the Mid-Region Council of Governments, and Healthy Here, among others.
Exciting features include health screenings, Complete Streets demonstration projects, yoga, live music, bike repair, bike rodeo, and climbing wall among other free, exciting family-friendly activities. CiQlovía is an opportunity to stimulate a community conversation about pedestrian and bicycle safety, and public health issues, while encouraging active living and healthy eating.
Also this year, ABQ CiQlovía is partnering with AARP New Mexico and place-making organization, Team Better Block out of Dallas for a week-long build and transformation process prior to the event day all done in collaboration with the community. The project temporarily improves the physical and economic environment on a specific city block, in this case the area near Southern Avenue.
