our bodies as/of water is a two-part, two-day tour of Albuquerque's water cycle. The event features a guided tour of the Albuquerque Southside Wastewater Reclamation Plant and a four-mile hike down the Arroyo Del Oso. Together we will connect our own watery bodies to the bodies of water that we (human and more-than-human) all depend on.

For a more informed experience, please see the links posted on this page.

Day One
December 4th, 10:45a-3p
Albuquerque Southside Wastewater Reclamation Plant
4201 2nd Street SW, Albuquerque

Please remember to:
— bring a lunch
— wear long pants
— wear closed-toed shoes
— weather appropriate clothing
 — be on time

We will meet in the parking lot of the Albuquerque Southside Wastewater Reclamation Plant (ABSRP) at 10:45. Our tour starts at 11:00 and runs until 1:00. Together we will learn where our water comes from, where it goes, and everything between. We will then eat our lunches at the Bosque. (Please bring a lunch with you) After lunch we will gather near the confluence of the Rio Grande and the ABSRP discharge to meditate on these waters. Lastly we gather for conversation on our experiences.

PLEASE SEE RULES AND DIRECTIONS FOR THE ABSRP BELOW
Due to OSHA regulations, everyone must wear long pants.
Due to OSHA regulations, everyone must wear closed-toe shoes.
Because this is a working plant, participants cannot have any physical impairment that limits their mobility, including everything from a broken leg to a seizure disorder.
Everyone in the tour must wear a hard hat. We have a number of these that we hand out, but you may wear your own bicycle helmet, as long as the chinstrap is fastened.
Please remind students that we will be walking outside for an hour and they should be prepared for walking and the weather.
Teachers (or graduate assistants) must attend with their students. Please do not send a substitute in your place.

Directions to the Southside Water Reclamation Plant
4201 2nd Street SW
Take I-25 south to the Rio Bravo exit. Turn right to go west on Rio Bravo. Go to the third stoplight, which is 2nd Street, and turn left to go south. The Treatment Plant is a quarter mile from Rio Bravo on the right side of the road. Stop at the Guard Station and the guard will direct you to our starting location under the tall, beige water tower.

Day Two
December 6th, 9a-1p
Arroyo Del Oso Park
8000 Spain Road NE, Albuquerque

Please remember to:
— bring a lunch
— wear long pants
— wear closed-toed shoes
— weather appropriate clothing
 — be on time

Day two is a three-hour walking tour through the Arroyo Del Oso/Bear Canyon. Beginning at the foothills of the Sandias and ending at the Bear Canyon Aquifer Storage & Recovery Project where water diverted from the San Juan River is pumped from the Rio Grande and seeped back into our aquifer «securing our water future.» Following the hike we will gather at the park to have a conversation about our experiences.
We will be meeting at the Arroyo Del Oso Park and then loading into half (or fewer) of the vehicles to drive to the Bear Canyon Trailhead in the Sandia Foothills. Then, we'll hike from there back to the park following the water's path down the Arroyo Del Oso. We'll stop for lunch along the hike and share a short meditation.
This is a multi-terrain trail with some hazards and unfortunately is not access to all abilities. If you have any trouble walking, please consider carefully if you can join.
